However, would flying in a wind tunnel be cheaper than a real free-fall jump? A wind tunnel tends to be an increadibly expensive piece of kit, plus they require heaps of kilowatthours of electricity to blow that wind so fast as if you were doing free-fall. Of course it will normally be safer to train in a wind tunnel than in a real jump, as like you said landing is guaranteed at the end of every single jump...
What I would REALLY like to do one day is fly on one of those vertical blowers they sometimes have on a well-assorted theme park or fair grounds. Two counter-rotating fans blowing upwards...
