FTP Hostname / Address : ftp.philskies.net
Username : library@philskies.net
Password : You know that..
This tutorial is based on the popular ftp program called WS FTP LE by ipSwitch. It's a free program, small size, easy to download, install and use. First, head on over to http://www.download.com and search using the keywords "WS FTP".
Download the program and install it. Installation is pretty straight forward so I don't think a step by step guide is needed. When done, open up the program of course..
When the program is done loading, you will be prompted with the following screen.
The profile name doesn't matter. You can put anything you like there but just leave the default name there for now. Now put your ftp hostname at the "Host Name/Address" field. For our purpose, the "Host Type" should always be in Automatic Detect. The next field is the "User ID" which is library@philskies.net and the password follows. The next fields can be left blank since we don't really need to use them. Click OK. At the bottom part of the window, you will see the status bar which will show you the connection status and if you follow the instructions carefully, the program will make a DONG sound when you are ready to transfer your files. That means you are already connected to the server.
The directory tree on the left side is your computer and the one on the right is the FTP Server's root directory which will show as "/" but it's actually library. That means anything you transfer into the root directory of the server will be located at http://www.philskies.net/library/ You can also create directory as you wish much like managing your files through Windows Explorer. To transfer files simply highlight the file on the left side and click the "-->" button at the centre of the screen. In this case I will be transfering a file called pfsg_logo.jpg.
A status bar will pop-up to show the transfer..
When the transfer is done, the program will again make a weird trick trick trick sound and the file will now show up at the right window or the root directory of the ftp server.
We could now check if the file is uploaded by using our browser. Again, the root directory is http://www.philskies.net/library so the file we uploaded will be located at http://www.philskies.net/library/pfsg_logo.jpg
Wonderful, the file is now published. Now the library is actually used for PFSG file uploads and if you wish to uploaded images for posting, you should use the other username which is "images@philskies.net". It's actually the same procedure except of course by replacing your username when connecting and the root is http://www.philskies.net/images
Hope that helps..
Regards,
EJ
